FAMILY REUNIONS
The Daines family branch from George Washington Daines [through sons Walter, and Carl], have had many family reunions. One was in 1977, in Northern Michigan, where Travilla, Ford, Roberta, and Bruce Daines were born. Another was at Bruce's widow's home in Royal Oak, when her son was married, and came to visit, with his wife, from the state of Washington. A third was at the home of my sister, Gail, in the 1980's. The most recent reunion was nearly ten years ago. Since then, we have not had the opportunity or the organization to meet the needs of planning and logistics, but in having spoken with my cousins, we feel the need to connect with one another again. Since the last reunion, many new events have happened in our lives and we would like to reconnect to share our joys and sorrows together as a family. I have also connected with many cousin outside of the state of Michigan and have learned much about them, and I hope that they would also join us in celebrating our family ties.... Email your thoughts and suggestions, We have lost touch with Aunt Georgie's family from the Flint, Mi area and John R. Daines family (believed to be in Van Buren County, Aunt Bannie's family, Ira's family-we saw once up North. My mother-in law, husband and I went to visit Aunt Beatrice, Ira's daughter, and have lost touch with her only son, Joe, and Lois Daines' family b. 1880 d. unknown. Last child of George Washington Daines, Emma Daines, is buried beside him at Robinson Cematary. She died young at the age of 13. A stone is in place.
PLACE: OHIO
TIME OF YEAR: The 19,000 students at Ohio University will be away from school during the summer months as well as the traditional school vacation times: Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. I personally think that Athens would be a nice place to be in April (if Easter is late), though the blooms will just be appearing, and the view of the surroundings improves throughout the fall, which I bet is spectacular.
POSSIBLE ACCOMODATIONS NEAR ATHENS

The Burr Oak Resort and Conference Center OHIO (off-season would be best) Has lake, boat launch, and individual cottages which accommodate many. http://www.burroakresort.com/ NO SMOKING. GREAT REVIEWS FROM RELATIVES (descendants of William and Athalinda (Reed) Dains) WHO OWNED LAND THERE.
The Amerihost Inn Athens, OHIO ( has indoor pool and hot tub) This is a college town, much like Ann Arbor, except for old, narrow streets (means little/ no parking- unless kids out of school). Ohio University located here has 19,000 students Good place to stay if students are GONE. Ohio Historical Society and Genealogy Society also in Athens. Ohio University has many records housed there, and everything is closeby. Biking is a good way to get around downtown and the campus. Beautiful architecture and historic sites. Located close to Millfield, Ohio and Truetown, (which is where, at Truetown or Oregon Ridge Cemetary, Ebenezer Dains m.Catherine Pearl Dewitt are buried). Meigs County is 1/2 hour road trip.
OTHER PLACES: CONNECTICUT

If you would be interested in participating a family reunion please email me at adaines6@aol.com I would plan to have at least a "seminar" in which a speaker/s could present historical and genealogical information. The day would culminate with a family style (catered) banquet in the evening. This would require advanced payment for seating reservations. All travel and lodging accommodations would be made individually. Tell me what you think and if you'd like to help.
